When driving down US 1-27 just north of East Lansing, you can't miss the stately old oak tree dominating the landscape of the new building recently constructed for GreenStone Farm Credit Service.

Smith Tree and Landscape was hired to protect and preserve this tree before construction even started.  The tree's root system was barricaded off to protect it from construction damage and soil compaction.  A 4-inch layer of mulch was applied under the entire canopy of the tree.  The tree was fertilized in the fall to boost vigor and it was pruned during the winter dormant season.

Kudos go to GreenStone for protecting a beautiful specimentree that we estimate is 186 years old.  Kudos also to Weidland-Davco Corporation,  the construction comany, for scrupulously following the recommendations of our certified arborists during the entire construction process.

The GreenStone oak is a prime example of successful tree preservation during construction.  We estimate this tree to be 186 years old.

It's important to protect valuable trees during the construction process.  Trees and their roots are vulnerable to damage from construction equipment.  Trees can receive physical damage or their root systems can be damaged, causing the tree to decline years down the road. Tree preservation at construction sites is just one of the many services Smith Tree and Landscape offers its clients.
