Why we discourage rolling and de-thatching lawns

We get many calls from customers asking to de-thatch or roll their lumpy lawns. Both of these activities are discouraged by leading turf experts.

De-thatching has been replaced by core aeration- this operation punctures the soil and brings up soil cores that over time provide a natural breakdown of thatch.

Rolling of lawns is also a no-no. With our heavy clay soils it leads to compaction, reducing important pore space and making it harder for growing healthy roots.
